BIO:  Looking for a Florida home only at this time

Hey, Ladies, there is a new man in town and boy oh boy is he handsome .... and oh, so sweet, too!  Meet Drake a retired breeder pup from NC.  Drake is very laid back.  in fact, Drake can be a little shy at first, but once he warms up to you, he will be all about YOU. He loves lap time or spending time outside with you on the lanai or balcony or in a fenced yard.  He is not a barker so shared walls are fine.  He can be an only dog if you are home most of the time, too.

Shortly after coming into rescue, Drake had an IVDD episode.  AADR immediately took him to the ER vet and successful back surgery was performed. He has also successfully completed physical therapy, water therapy on the treadmill, and laser therapy.  AADR spared no expense for this dear boy! Now he is ready to go to his forever home ... YAHOO!  Could it be yours?  His adopter will need to continue to protect Drake’s back from injury, so just like for any doxie, that means no stairs, no getting overweight, and no jumping.  Leash walks to further strengthen his muscles would be great.

Our must-haves for precious Drake include someone who:

  • Will not allow him to get overweight
  • Will not allow him to do stairs (one step is fine)
  • Will not allow him to jump
  • Is home more often than not; apartments or condos are acceptable
  • He can be an ONLY dog if you are home most of the time. He loves to be near his person!
  • Has another laid-back, small adult dog to keep him company if you have to be gone a lot
  • Has experience with IVDD could be helpful as well

Drake’s foster mom will be happy to tell you what an AWESOME boy he is.  She is hoping to find him the wonderful home he deserves right here in FL. You won’t regret adopting this sweetheart!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.
